A Little About

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning takes place in an environment where students feel safe and each one of their opinions matters; any student can learn when they are accepted as individuals. Art education plays a vital role is each student's education and development across all ages. My goal is to equip students with the tools to live in a visual culture as an art educator.
There are many reasons as why I want to be an educator, but simply, I want to be an advocate for the visual arts and artists. I want to teach my students creative problem-solving skills to use in their futures that they acquired by making art. I feel that creative problem solving is an essential tool for students to succeed in the long-term. I often find myself telling students that "I don't give you assignments, I give you problems to solve." Another important thing in my teaching is that I provide students the opportunity to engage in a problem, persist to solve the problem, and even sometimes fail. In my experiences both as a student and a teacher, sometimes our greatest learning come from making mistakes. As long as we process what happened and what we can do next time, there will be great strides into success. Each student has the potential to grow and develop into skilled artists.
Above everything else (even art), I want to serve as a positive role model for the youth of this generation. It is truly my honor to work with and grow alongside unique and bright individuals. Students are the ultimate reason why I am in this business; I have the ability to learn from them every single day. Most of my greatest learning experiences have been inside the classroom walls as the role of a teacher.
