Reflection
Two dispositions that I feel quite comfortable with are Professional Behaviors and Desire to Improve Own Performance. In my practice, I often am prompt and present in every class period and teaching experience. In this semester, I have not been late or absent one time to class or teaching. I place a large importance on being on time and present every single day. I always want to be there for students and colleagues, and if I saw that I will be somewhere or do something, I follow through with my actions. In terms of assignments, I am always prompt with due dates and will provide high quality work to my assessors. This is something I pride myself in with my professional practice. In terms of improving my own performance, I recognize that I am an emergent educator and at this point, I am no master. I always look for ways that I can improve in and consider what needs to be changed to benefit my students. I feel a deep responsibility for my professional performance, and always looking for ways to improve my instruction. I am always learning new things, and want to apply this new knowledge to my practice as an art educator.
One disposition that I would like to focus on in my upcoming semester as a student teacher is Cultural Responsiveness. So far in my teaching, most of my classes have not been extremely diverse; this is really the first semester where I have been teaching a diverse population of students. As I move forward, I want to become more aware of these diversities, and how to address and reach learners of all backgrounds. Again, this semester has been a good introduction to diverse teaching, but I want to refine this element of my teaching practice as I move forward. I want to consider what needs to be done by me as the teacher to be respectful and be able to reach all of the learners in my classroom in an effective way.
My final thoughts on these dispositions is that I am always looking for ways to improve. I truly understand that as a new teacher I am not an expert by any means, so I feel that I can always grow and refine my instruction. I think that the experience of student teacher will really refine all of these skills and provide me a solid knowledge and understanding of the teaching position as I enter my professional practice in the near future. I am always open and accepting of any feedback that is given to me, and I truly appreciate comments from seasoned teachers. I encourage myself to absorb and take in the knowledge champion teachers provide me as I student teach. I am really looking forward to this new opportunity to be fully involved in a school and taking on the responsibilities of a full time educator. I know from experience that this role isn't always easy, but it is an extremely rewarding position.
